Emails
Sending emails
Send transactional mail from a verified domain and follow it in the dashboard.
Send an email
Send through the Emails API with a sending-access or full-access API key, or through the SMTP gateway. Supply a sender on a verified domain, at least one recipient, a subject, and HTML or text.
curl "$OPENSEND_BASE_URL/emails" \
-H "Authorization: Bearer $OPENSEND_API_KEY" \
-H "Content-Type: application/json" \
-d '{"from":"Acme <hello@example.com>","to":["you@example.net"],"subject":"Hello from Opensend","html":"<p>Your first email is on its way.</p>"}'The response carries the email's ID. It means the email is queued, not delivered: Opensend then submits it to Amazon SES, and delivery results arrive as SES reports them.
Follow it in the dashboard
Open Emails. The Sending tab lists sent emails, newest first. Search by recipient, sender or subject, pick a date range, and use Filter by status. The export button downloads the filtered list as CSV (see exports).
Click an email to open it. The page shows its recipients, sender, subject and ID, a link to the POST /emails request in Logs, the delivery events SES reported, and the message under Preview, Plain text, HTML, Raw, and Insights (opens and clicks, when tracking is on). From there you can:
- Cancel an email that is still scheduled.
- Convert to template, which creates a template from the email's content and opens it.
- Share email from the ... menu, to create a public link to the message.
- View log from the ... menu, to see every request for the email.
Statuses
An email moves through Queued or Scheduled, then Sent when SES accepts it, and on to Delivered, Delayed, Opened, Clicked, Bounced, or Complained as events arrive. Failed, Canceled and Suppressed end an email that was never delivered. Supported delivery events fire webhooks; cancellation has no webhook event.
Limits
- Up to 50 recipients across To, Cc and Bcc.
- HTML, text and custom headers together up to 900,000 UTF-8 bytes.
- Email content is kept for 30 days. Queued and scheduled emails are kept until they are sent.
