Audience

Segments

Group contacts to target broadcasts.

Create a segment

Open Audience → Segments and click Create segment. Enter a Name, for example Customers, and click Create segment. The segment's page opens.

Segments are internal groups for targeting broadcasts. Only your team sees their names; contacts never see them, and they are not shown on the unsubscribe page.

Add contacts

  • On the segment's page, the Contacts section lists every contact with a checkbox. Tick the ones to include.
  • On a contact's page, use Add to segment under Segment membership.
  • On the contacts list, select rows and choose Edit → Add to segments.
  • Pick a segment when you add contacts manually or import a CSV.

The segments list shows each segment's Contacts count, and can be searched and exported as CSV.

Use it

Choose the segment as the Audience of a broadcast, or in an automation's Add to segment step. Through the API, see segments and add contact to segment.

Delete a segment

Choose Delete and confirm. The contacts stay in your audience; only their membership is removed, in the background. A broadcast that targeted the deleted segment refuses to send instead of going to all contacts.

Limits

There is no limit on the number of segments. Names are 1–200 characters. A request can name up to 1,000 segment IDs; large membership changes continue in background batches. Segment pickers search the server. Contact webhooks include at most 100 segment IDs; use list contact segments to page through all memberships.
